I’m happy to say the sequel to Unexpected is out today on Amazon. Someone To Love tells the love story of Davina Trent, the ex who tried to cause a little strife between Dale and Becca in the first book. Trent had a disagreeable character but was someone whom Becca had loved at one point in her life, and I wanted to dig deeper and get under the skin of the hot shot lawyer.
For me it’s all about the backstory. I love to work out the why a character behaves the way they do, and Trent was a wonderful example of that.
What lies beneath Trent’s tough shell is a woman with a broken heart, for a few reasons, and a woman scared to get hurt.
One night her life turns upside down when her cousin dies in a car crash leaving her the custody of his two children. Children were the last thing Trent ever thought she wanted and she resists the calling to be the guardian for Alice and little Noah, but in the end realises she has to do the right thing, and brings them to stay, but she can’t run a successful legal career and look after two children.
Enter Wendy Darling, nanny with a knack of fixing families and putting them back together. When she starts work and sees how dysfunctional Trent and the children’s relationship is, she sets out to build bridges. The initially prickly Trent grows on her, as Trent’s true character is coaxed out of her but by bit, but along the way Wendy didn’t expect to fall for the children and her much older boss.
