It’s Day 12 of my Twelve Books for Christmas blog, where I introduce you to twelve romance books to warm your heart and make you feel all Christmassy. 
They’ll all make wonderful presents for a friend, or you could even treat yourself. Today’s festive treat is the heart-warming Christmas in the Scottish Highlands by popular romance author Donna Ashcroft.

Welcome, Donna. When does Christmas begin for you? When do you put up your Christmas tree? Do you go mad with the decorations or do you just put up a tree?
Christmas always starts at the beginning of December for me. I really love the season – the decorations, music, food and drink and I start to get excited early. We try to get the tree up as early as we can in the month – usually during the first weekend of December. We put a tree in the kitchen filled with decorations my children have made over the years and we try to be organised and wrap and put the presents underneath it all month. We also have a blue spruce planted in a pot that lives outside. I named it Tom (after the hero in one of my Christmas books). Tom comes inside towards the end of December and lives in the front room.
We have lots of decorations which we hang on the walls, banisters, and fill windowsills with. I have a tradition of buying a new decoration every year. Last year we brought candles which can be hung from the ceiling and it makes the kitchen look like something out of Hogwarts.
That all sounds amazing. What is your earliest Christmas memory?
I remember going to a Christmas party at my father’s company. I was about five and my mum did my hair and put me in a red velvet dress. I know I sat on Father Christmas’s lap and he gave me a plastic doll. I was very shy in those days so I was happy to get home.
What is your favourite Christmas tradition?
My children are both in their late teens, but ever since they were little we put seeds on the lawn for Santa’s reindeers to eat and we still do it! I also visit the website NORAD on Christmas eve so we can track Santa’s progress as he delivers presents around the world. At the beginning of December, I buy a bottle of Advocaat so I can make and drink Snowball Cocktails. This is my Christmas drink and I don’t drink it during any other month of the year!
Which author, dead or alive, would you like to invite for Christmas dinner?
Probably Stephen King, I love his books and I think he’d be fascinating.
If you could travel anywhere you want in the world where would you like to spend Christmas day?
Iceland – because there would be plenty of snow (which I love), it’s one of the best times of the year to see the Northern Lights, which is on my bucket list. Also, they traditionally give each other books on Christmas Eve so it’s the perfect place for an author to spend Christmas!
What would make a perfect Christmas for you?
Being with my friends and family, watching my children open their stockings and enjoying plenty of food and drink. Oh, and I’d love it to snow…
