One of the biggest stars of the self-publishing world is sponsoring a new crime fiction award celebrating the area where she has set her best-selling books.
Louise J Ross — the author L J Ross — has set up The Lindisfarne Prize, with a prize of £2,500, for debut authors who are from or who set their work in the North-east of England and is organised in association with the Newcastle Noir Festival.
The prize is named after the island of Lindisfarne where Ross set her first novel, Holy Island. Entrants must not have previously had their work published in any form and must submit a short story of no more than 10,000 words or the first two chapters and a synopsis of their work in progress.
The winning entry will get £2,500 to support the completion of their work, plus free editorial and mentoring services from Cheshire Cat Books and funding towards a year’s membership of the Society of Authors and the Alliance of Independent Authors.
Entries are now open until March 31, 2019 and the winner will be announced on Friday, May 3 during Newcastle Noir Crime Writing Festival.
To enter the contest, send your work as an attachment to competition email address: lindisfarneprize@outlook.com and mark the email subject ‘Lindisfarne Prize 2019’. Entries will receive an acknowledgement.
Entries will be considered on the basis of their overall storytelling and potential. The judging panel will consist of five industry experts and their decision will be final.
The winner must be available to attend a small ceremony on Friday, May 3 2019 as part of the Newcastle Noir Crime Writing Festival 2019.
Ross, who was born in Northumberland, has self-published a series of 10 crime novels so far starring Detective Chief Inspector Maxwell Finlay-Ryan. Her latest book, Longstone, is riding high in the Kindle best-seller charts in the UK and US and the series overall has sold more than three million copies in just over two years.
