Amazon have added an extra incentive for writers to enter the 2019 UK Kindle Storyteller contest with the chance of an Amazon Prime video production of their book plus an advance payment of $10,000 to add to the £20,000 cash award for the Storyteller winner.
All Kindle Storyteller finalists will now be entered into an additional round of judging along with the six finalists of the other KDP literary awards internationally. One title will be selected by Amazon International Original Studios and the author will be offered an option contract for an audiovisual production and an advance payment of $10,000.
Amazon says the video choice among the six winners will be based on criteria including creativity, originality, and boldness of storytelling. The option deal is for a three-year exclusive period for Amazon Studios to buy the screenplay of their book.
James Farrell, Head of International Originals for Amazon Studios, says: ‘We are always looking for original content from around the world for our Prime Video customers, and the next big idea and truly unique perspective can come from anywhere.
‘To have a shortlist of great books evaluated by Kindle and by customers through the already successful KDP writing contests, and being able to pick one of them to develop as a series or a movie will be fantastic.’
This is the third year for the Kindle Storyteller UK contest which is open to KDP Select authors publishing in ebook and print formats is currently open for entries until August 31, 2019 and features a £20,000 cash prize plus the winner will get a marketing campaign to support their book on Amazon.co.uk and the opportunity to have their book translated.
Amazon recently announced an all-star judging panel for the Kindle Storyteller 2019 Award. TV presenter and host of podcast Books to Live By Mariella Frostrup will join last year’s Storyteller winner Hannah Lynn, self-publishing best-selling authors L J Ross and Mark Dawson, and Orna Ross, founder of the Alliance of Independent Authors.
It will be very interesting to see their shortlist as L J Ross, who has sponsored a £2,500 award for debut crime fiction authors, writes massively-selling police procedural mysteries set in the North of England, while Mark Dawson, who is a champion of self-publishing and runs highly regarded courses for indie authors, is the author of the hugely popular John Milton thrillers.
Orna Ross is the author of a family saga trilogy as well as being a poet, creativity guru, and a great advocate of self-publishing in her role at the Alliance of Independent Authors.
Mariella Frostrup has a long track record in making and presenting arts programmes on TV and radio, including Open Book and The Book Show. She is also the Dear Mariella agony advice columnist in The Observer newspaper and the voice for announcements in the lifts on the London Overground train line.
