Our City Reads – Get Involved

Well now, this is exciting. I’m working with the amazing volunteer-led libraries in Sheffield on a mass readathon. It’s something for the WHOLE city and I’m delighted to be involved.

I’ve donated a poem for young people. It’s called Mrs City and we’re asking everyone, all over the city, to record themselves reading it – my poem, and all the details of how to get involved are here (there are many ways!) – including how you can sign up for a FREE WRITING WORKSHOP with me and the very brilliant Lauren Ash from CHOL. There are loads of other cool ways to be involved, via The Site Gallery and Zest. I’d keep your eyes peeled for other donated poems too (including one from the amazing Poet in Residence, Warda Yassin...). It’s all very exciting and I’d love as many people involved as possible so DO SHARE!

From their site…

“For the first part of our Readathon, Children aged 7-15 across the city are invited to be a part of a mass reading of “Mrs City” by Nik Perring (Writer in Residence for Sheffield Libraries). This mass reading will go live on Monday 15th February, when you can watch yourself on the Internet!

All you need to do is use your phone to film yourself, your child, your sibling or your whole family reading. The text of the poem is at the bottom of this page, or you can download and print a pdf here.  Send your video via WhatsApp to 07526 032173 to be included in a very special edited video of “Mrs City”. Or contact David McNeil at Zest David.mcneil@zestcommunity.co.uk , if you would like more information. The deadline for submissions of readings is Monday 1st February.

Be a part of something big and remember to be creative – you might want to dress up, or do actions, or perform in any way you can think up!
