Mid book blues

Just a quick update to let everyone know that the new fantasy novel (still untitled) is coming along nicely… or rather it was. Ever since I passed the 50,000 word mark it’s been like walking through treacle and I’m still only on about 55,000 words. I know accomplished writers usually say that the middle part of a book is the hardest bit to write, and in my limited experience that is certainly true, but I never struggled like this on any of my other novels. I’m quite convinced that once I pass the 60, 000 word mark that I’ll start to motor again. Regardless, I’m really pleased how it’s coming along.

What’s been particularly pleasing has been the character development. I loved some of the characters in my previous books, especially Teren and Verik and I was concerned that I would create similar characters this time around but that’s not been the case; I have several main characters in this new novel and all of them are strong with their own traits and completely different to any I’ve created before.

I hope to have a big writing week this week that will see me pass that elusive 60,000 word mark and then it will be all plain sailing… I hope.
