The Kindle Unlimited KENP rate for June 2018 rose slightly to $0.0046 from $0.0045 in May while the KDP Select Global fund also showed a small increase to $22.6 million from $22.5 million in May.
The KENP rate has kept very steady so far this year, with $0.0044 in January, $0.0046 in February and $0.0045 for March, April and May.
The KENP rate for the UK market for June 2018 stayed at the same level as in May and April at £0.0035.
The size of the KDP Select fund for June this year at $22.6 million was 25.5% up on the $18 million paid out in June 2017, just up from the 25% year-on-year increase for May.
For June 2018, using the calculation of dividing the total KDP Select fund ($22.6 million) by the US KENP rate ($0.0046) to get an idea of the total number of KENPs read results in 4.9 billion, down slightly from May’s 5 billion, but up from 4.7 billion in April.
Previous months’ figures include 4.66 billion in March, 4.54 billion in February, 4.75 billion KENPs in January, 4.42 billion in December 2017 and 4.3 billion in November, so you can see there is generally a steadily rising trend in pages read, with the usual seasonal boost in January.
The total paid out by the KDP Select Global fund for the first six months of this year now totals $127.2 million. At the same time in 2017 the total for the fund for the half-year was $106 million, so the year-on-year increase for the first six months has risen to exactly 20%.
If that 19% rise holds out over the rest of the year it would mean an overall fund payout of around $267 million for the whole of 2018.
The KENP figures for July 2018 (to be released on or around August 15) will represent a couple of milestones for Kindle Unlimited as it will be four years since the ebook subscription scheme started in July 2014 and three years since it moved from a flat rate per loan basis to the KENP system in July 2015. Kindle Unlimited has now paid out just over $700 million to authors since it launched in July 2014.
