An indie author has burst into the Amazon Charts this week with the distinction of being the week’s most Unputdownable novel.
Wintersteel by Will Wight takes the No 9 spot on the Most Sold list in the Amazon.com Charts. The book is the eighth novel in the popular Cradle fantasy series and the Unputdownable label means that Kindle readers are finishing Wintersteel faster than similar novels.
The book was published on October 6 and already has over 2,000 reviews (5-star average) on the Amazon.com Kindle store and close to 2,000 reviews on the Amazon.co.uk Kindle store (also 5-star average). It’s not too often you find later novels in a series being received even more favourably than the earlier novels but that’s what seems to be happening with Wintersteel.
Will Wight is an indie author who has his own imprint called Hidden Gnome Publishing and on his website he talks about being nervous and insecure over the launch of Wintersteel and then seeing the book actually hitting No 1 on the Kindle store best-sellers (that’s a different list from Amazon Charts).
This week also sees the rare phenomenon of being Rowling-free on the Most Sold section of the Amazon.com and Amazon.co.uk Charts, although the UK Most Sold Chart does feature JK Rowling in her Robert Galbraith guise. The Most Read section of the Amazon Charts in the US and UK both still feature all seven Harry Potter novels and the new Galbraith. The Potters have been in the Most Read Charts in the US for up to 179 weeks which is nearly three-and-a-half years.
The Amazon Charts were launched in May 2017 and the Most Read sections track ebooks and audiobooks while the Most Sold sections cover sales of print books sold through Amazon plus Audible audiobooks, Kindle ebook sales and reads above 10% of books offered through Kindle Unlimited.
