Ickworth House – A step back in time

Last Saturday, my family and I visited the amazing Ickworth House in Suffolk. We had a great time exploring the house and it almost felt like we had stepped back in time. The Servants quarters were the most interesting for me. Being a writer, even when I don’t plan to wear my writing hat, it just happens. There was something about the house that told of great stories and I could imagine some of the stories being told from the servant’s POV. Check out these two boards from the servants quarters.

Somewhere in there is a story. It could be a start of a great YA Historical Novel told entirely from a servant’s POV. In those days servants were not allowed an opinion and it’s sad that they didn’t have a voice, but now they can have a voice and they should. I’ve kind of plotted a story inside my head, but historical fiction is not my natural genre so I just need to pluck up the courage to write it.

Fascinating history. Stunning architecture. Great day out.

Note to self — One day I’ll attempt to write a YA historical romance novel, and it might be sooner than I think.

I’ll keep you posted.

Much love,

Lorraine
