You know when you’ve bought some trousers that you knew were a bit weird even in the shop, and now and again you think ‘I suppose I’d better give them an outing’, so you wear them somewhere it doesn’t matter too much what you look like (I chose an appointment at Sunderland Eye Infirmary), and you keep them on for the whole day, after which you can put them back in the wardrobe for another year and think, well, at least I’ve worn them, which means they weren’t a total waste of money…
