For my Friday Reads post this week I’m featuring my new psychological thriller, The Family Reunion, which will be published by Bookouture on 23 January 2023. It’s my fourth psychological thriller, and I was inspired to write it by watching TV programmes such as Long Lost Family. I always have tears in my eyes when the family are happily reunited, but as a psychological thriller writer, I can’t help looking at the other angle and asking myself what would happen if things didn’t quite turn out as everyone wanted. What if the birth mother’s existing family resent the long-lost sibling? Or if the long-lost sibling has struggled in life and resents the way their birth mother abandoned them but went on to marry and look after other children? Then, of course, I have to take this a little bit further; what if the jealously between the other siblings simmers and explodes, resulting in someone getting hurt? That’s the springboard of this story.
