Description

Combining cutting-edge science and stress-free, delicious recipes, Cooking for Your Genes explores how food ‘talks’ to our genes. It looks at the interaction between biology and our genes, and how we can eat our way to better health.

Expert nutrigenomic practitioner Debbi Nathan and chef Helen Nathan guide you through the key biological pathways including:

Detoxification – Our internal cleaning system

Methylation – Energy production of our cells

Oxidative Stress – Plays an active role in the ageing process

Inflammation – Can lead to weight gain and more serious illnesses

With over 65 simple, nutritious recipes packed with flavour, you’ll find a range of dishes whether you’re cooking for one or a family of five.

Your environment, lifestyle choices and the food you eat all react with your genes. By personalising your nutrition, you can empower yourself to better understand any underlying health risks and eat to live a healthier life.

My thoughts

I really enjoyed reading this book! With having a thyroid problem that both my father and grandmother had, I was interested in finding more about how you can eat your way healthier given your genes. My thyroid problem isn’t going to go away and needs permanently medicating but this book has allowed me to think a little deeper about my dietary choices. I can still improve my general health and feel better from the inside out.

A lot of the information in this book can be applied to anyone. It is all round healthy eating advice that would be good to take on board. The recipes look fab too. So far I’ve tried out the salad dressings but that’s been because it’s so hot at the moment and salads are going down nicely. I will try cooking some of the recipes in the near future.

I must also recommend the chocolate, banana and peanut smoothie. It’s absolutely delicious and feels like a real treat even thought it’s giving your body a lot of what it needs. A big yum from me!
