Christmas

I’ve spent a good chunk of the past couple of days going through the videos we’ve been sent for Sheffield Libraries’ Rebellious Season (with The British Library, for their Unfinished Business) and I’ve been blown away by the scope, the breadth, and the passion – as well as the eloquence of the writers who’ve contributed (if you’ve not sent yours over yet, please do). I’m terrifically excited about them getting a wider audience – I’m excited too about the videos I’ve seen for what I’ve been doing for The BBC’s Novels That Shaped Our World/Dear 2021, The Start of It. One of the best bits about doing what I do is getting to hear what other people think about things, about how they see the world and how they can make me feel with their words. I’ve led six workshops over the past three days, so I’ve been really lucky in how much other people have been able to make me feel. These are projects I’m very proud to be a part of.

And we’re not done yet. There’s still one more opportunity to work with me, writing letters as poems to the new year, while exorcising the lonely ghost of 2020 (here for teens, and here for over 18s). We’ve pretty much given up on limiting tickets because the response has been so good – I’d still sign up early though.

And if anyone fancies a laid back, mulled wine, fun evening of festive writing, then this is happening on December 21st. It’s for everyone – no exeperience required – just the willingness to have a little fun and, typically (for me!) do something a little different in writing about this time of the year.

Christmas Writings!

Join our Writer in Residence for a festive bit of word fun. We’ll be re-writing Christmas songs and carols, and using them as a way of starting something brand new!

‘tis the season of goodwill and good writing – everyone’s welcome, even if you’ve never done it before.

Suitable for teens and adults.
