Q1) If you could spend a day with another popular author, whom would you choose?
Answer: Hello everyone, my name is Anuoluwapo Ogunmoroti, Author Moroti for short, and if there was an author I would want to spend the day with, it would be Chimamanda Adichie, author of Dream Counts. She is the one who inspired me to become a writer.
Another author I would love to spend the day with is Dustin Thao, author of You’ve Reached Sam. I am so in love with his book cover. He might not have inspired me to become a writer, but his stories are quite inspiring, and if I could, I would love to spend the day with him.
Q2) At what point do you think someone should call themselves a writer?
Answer: Well, for me, I had been writing since I was little, and as far back as that time, I didn’t see myself as a writer—until I began to publish my work bit by bit on Wattpad. That’s when I began to see myself as a writer.
Ideally, you become a writer when you can publish on a platform, or at the very least, when you are confident enough to share your work with someone. You can also call yourself a writer when you are passionate about writing or by the quality of your work.
Q3) Do you play music while you write — and, if so, what’s your favorite?
Answer: Heck yes, I do! But sometimes it can be distracting, lol. I listen to Pop, R\&B, K-pop, and EDM—especially if the songs are by Blackpink, SEVENTEEN, BTS, Kygo, Justin Bieber, Taylor Swift, Selena Gomez, Sabrina Carpenter, Ed Sheeran, Mikolas, Kyle Hume, Keenan Te, Elijah Woods, and Alec Benjamin.
But my all-time favorite will be If We Have Each Other by Alec Benjamin.
Q4) If you could be a character in one of your favorite books, who would you be?
Answer: This one is easy. It would be Kate Hardcastle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Hardcastle, from the novel She Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith. I love how Oliver Goldsmith made Kate fall in love with Marlow, but Marlow is shy around women of high social class. This made it difficult for Kate to capture his heart.
However, Kate is quite clever. Kate “stoops to conquer” by disguising herself as a barmaid to overcome Marlow’s shyness. By doing so, she allows Marlow to interact with her in a more natural way, helping him to overcome his reserve and ultimately win his affection. Through this clever tactic, Kate “stoops to conquer” Marlow’s heart.
Another character I would definitely pick is Koriola Macaulay, the main character of my debut novel. She was willing to do whatever it takes to bring her acting career to the limelight. And even though I wrote her that way, I adore her strength and courage. She truly acted in the name of love.
Q5) How long have you been writing or when did you start?
Answer: I have been writing officially for 8 years now, but if I count all the gibberish stuff I wrote as a teenager, then I would say 12 years. I started writing at age 13, and I still remember what I titled the first book I ever wrote. It was inspired by the princess books I used to read—Aladdin, Rapunzel, Snow White, and the rest.
But because I didn’t want the female main character to be weak, I made her a warrior—kind of like Wonder Woman. I ended up titling it The Beauty Princess That Goes to War.
Q6) If you could meet your characters, what would you say to them?
Answer: To Koriola, the female lead of In the Name of Love, I would say:
“You are indeed the girl who showed no fear, and I am so proud of you for acting in the name of love. Sorry if we have so many similarities—I just needed someone who has a lot in common with me to make my dreams come true as an aspiring actress who dreams of becoming a Hollywood star. And you were that perfect person. So thank you… Arigato, Koriola Senpai.”
Q7) How do you use social media as an author?
Answer: Social media has been a great tool for me, especially TikTok and Instagram. That’s where I create character vs. author skits, follow trending author reels, and the like. I don’t really use X much, but I come on there once in a while to drop some of my skits and my writing progress.
I use LinkedIn a lot as well, building my portfolio there, and also Medium. I recently created a WhatsApp group chat where I can interact closely with my readers. Basically, it’s a group where people who are interested in my book or have read my book can interact, and I can interact with them directly.
You can find me on Instagram @author_Moroti and @Moroti_Speaks, which is my poetry page. You can click the link in my bio on Instagram to join the WhatsApp group. On TikTok, the handle is @author_Moroti while on LinkedIn and Medium: Anuoluwapo Ogunmoroti.
Q8) If you’re planning a sequel, can you share a tiny bit about your plans for it?
Answer: Well, I am planning two sequels. One is pure poetry and is actually coming out this year—1st June 2025—and it is titled Diary of a Dainty Butterfly. You can find out all the details about it on my poetry Instagram page @Moroti_Speaks.
The second sequel will be more of a spinoff focused on the love story that is likely to bloom between Jacob and Raven, who are characters in my debut novel In the Name of Love that also launched this year 17 th of April. It’s going to require a lot of world-building, and I already have the title engraved in my heart: Lovetopia—the perfect title, if I do say so myself.
Q9) How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?
Answer: I’ve written a total of 11 books, all of which are published and available to read for free on Wattpad under the pen name Moroti_writes. Two of them—In the Name of Love and Diary of a Dainty Butterfly—are being published.
In the Name of Love is already available on Amazon, Kindle, Barnes & Noble, Spotify, Rovingheights amongst many others while Diary of a Dainty Butterfly, my poetry book, which is going to be published on June 1st, will also be available on those sites.
My favorite book would be The Twin Series: A Twin with a Difference and Twin with Benefit. Both are available to read for free on Wattpad under the pen name Moroti_writes.
Q10) If your book were made into a movie, which actors would play your characters?
Answer: If my debut novel In the Name of Love was made into a movie, no question asked, I would definitely use Yara Shahidi and her mom. I love them so much—they are such an iconic duo and would be perfect to play Koriola and her mom.
Next would be Keith Powers as the male lead, Storm Reid as Raven Aderoke (the second female lead), and Diggy Simmons as the second male lead. Each and every one of them is carefully chosen, and I wouldn’t have it any other way.
