Author Interiew: Val Toledo

As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?
Strangely enough,I never planned to be a writer, I always felt there was a plan for me to do something great, however couldn’t place what it was. I had fantasies of being on stage and felt I needed to be in the public eye and yet always lacked confidence to really step up at all times.
I chose teaching as the safe and secure profession, never quite realising
where teaching would take me, far beyond what i ever envisioned .
Do you hear from your readers much? What kinds of things do they say?
Yes I work very closely and intimately with my readers, as many of them
come to me for what I call, Alignment Coaching, which is what my second book is all about. This book was birthed by my readers asking me to teach them my process of empowerment that I shared in my story of my life.
They resonated with my journey and wanted to learn how to bring it
practically into their lives.
Do you play music while you write — and, if so, what’s your favourite?
I do play music while I write, and its specific music that is in frequencies of a specific HZ , a common one is the Solfeggio Sounds, which resonate in love HZ, liberation from fear etc, as well as many spiritual songs of prayer.
I also spent many mornings preparing myself through meditation and
prayer to bring myself into higher self so I could channel the information given to me from the divine field of consciousness.
Have you listened to any audiobooks? Which did you enjoy the most?
In my autobiography ,I write about spending days of travelling in my car dropping kids at their various activities, and reading my favourite authors as I drove, using audio books. In those days it was all on cassette tape and CD discs. Gosh makes me feel ancient and from another dimension.
My mentors were too in a similar dimension as myself and to name but a few, Gregg Braden, Caroline Myss, James Redfield, Deepak Chopra, and many more.

How do you use social media as an author?
I was a very quiet author who didn’t step out into media much and allowed my book to flow gently to those who need to read it. This resulted in a
coaching career where I spent time helping my readers find the best
version of themselves too. Only recently I have decided to come out of
hiding and spread my material further as I’ve realised how many people
are in need of this philosophy I call “the upward spiral series”, this led me to rebrand and develop a social media platform on facebook, Instagram etc… My main aim here is to give wonderful guidance and education to those who cannot afford the coaching and can help themselves through my social posts.
How many books have you written? Which is your favourite?
I have written 3 books that all form part of the upward spiral philosophy and they truly can transform ones life if applied with honest intention and integrity. I like them all, however my first is still my favourite.
What are common traps for new authors?
New authors are often confused as how to publish, if they don’t get
accepted by a publisher they don’t produce their book. There are many
ways a new author can self publish but be mindful, there are many
dishonest companies promising a lot to new authors and charging a lot of money and not delivering, they promise royalties on sales and don’t pay.
One such company that didn’t deliver to me was Author Solutions. I can
share a lot of guidance for new authors.
What books helped you the most when you were writing your (first) book?
To be honest, my first book I always say, felt as though it was channelled to me, I don’t know where the information came from, I sat and wrote almost in a trance, very quickly and then stopped to read, realising that a chapter was written and I wasn’t sure how? The idea to share my story and my observations of how people acted and trapped themselves into cycles of sabotage, destruction and chaos, was an area I wanted to share, as well as how I got myself out of that prism of repeated mistakes and cycles, this was planned, the rest just flowed in its own divine way.

What inspired the idea for your book?
I was always a deep thinker and from a young age began questioning life
and its meaning and purpose. Beginning from a sad childhood of extreme loss, losing both parents by the age of 14 in unexpected circumstances, I knew I had to make it alone. This made me a keen observer and it showed me the dynamics playing out in personal relationships and companies. I realised then that different people had different ways of operating and many were driven to control people through emotional blackmail and manipulation. I couldn’t believe how people willingly fell into a trap of subtle power struggles where the were swept into a current of self dismissal and doubt. This was extremely noticeable in the corporate environment. On completion of an intervention run in a few companies, I realised that I had to do something to help people find their power base, activate their true self and show up in the best version of themselves. This gave me the drive and the passion to share my philosophy of how to break this mould that keeps one small and subservient , and so came my story.
What, to you, are the most important elements of good writing
The most important element of good writing is to write from the heart, to have a drive and a passion, a love affair to share your story and creation with others, and it has to be birthed no matter what.
