No Right to Kill by MA Comley.

Book description:

He stands in the shadows. Watching them.

DI Sara Ramsey’s life is about to change forever. Recently moved to the area and in charge of a new team, she’s tasked with finding a serial killer terrorising a rural community.

Crimes as heinous as this rarely happen in picturesque rural idylls.

The community is living in fear, desperate for Sara to keep them safe.

When the killer changes his MO and abducts a vulnerable resident, Sara realises she’s in a race against time to prevent the killer from claiming yet another victim.

My thoughts:

No Right to Kill is book one in a new series. We are introduced to DI Sara Ramsey and DS Carla Jameson. I love the dynamics between the pair and enjoyed reading as their working relationship grew during the course of the novel. Sara’s backstory gave her a lovely human touch. She’s a detective with heart and she uses that heart to comfort victims as well as drive the investigation. Mel has created an incredibly likeable detective.

This book throws the reader directly into a scene which shows an abhorrent crime where two people are found dead in their home. Throughout the story, we get chapters from the killer’s point of view, forcing the reader to keep turning those pages. Who doesn’t want a killer caught? These chapters were very skilfully written, showing the reader exactly what type of person the perpetrator was – very cleverly building that tension up.

This novel moves at speed and I read it in only two sittings. It delivers a brilliant introduction to a cast of new characters, some who will be carried forward into the next book in the series. Page-turner? Definitely. Fab new series? Yes! Check it out? You certainly should!
