Spring!

I love this time of year. I love the way everything pushes through the earth to delight us with its greenness and then oftentimes a beautiful display of flowers. The hedgerows at present, (where they are left to grow and seed before being cut) are full and beautiful in their randomness.  Lots of fresh shades of green and creamy white, and yellow of those dandelions and buttercups. I had to check to see if Mr H still liked butter only yesterday. And daisies grow in abundance and what more gentle pleasure on a warm, blue-skied afternoon is there than making a daisy chain? Put me with the youngsters (or not) and I’m quite content in these ‘juvenile’ pursuits. I love it! But I now confess I love all the seasons and the changes they bring to the countryside. Each unique and wonderful. It has been a good spring for frogs in our neck of the woods. I have never seen so many in our pond and now swimming with the goldfish, lots of tadpoles who are getting fatter each day. And hedgehogs, not seen for quite a while, have returned. My neighbour and I feel we are family now, as we share the spiky family. I leave water and food for these friends, and do my bit with gaps in fences, and lots of ground cover planting. And the birds, again we have seen a robin chick fledge and hope there may be another brood. We are leaving our small greenhouse (one used only for storage) to them, since we discovered a nest in pond-plant baskets, and will do until we are sure they won’t make use of it again. Happy spring, summer and all seasons to you all.
