Author Interview: Jonathan A Spain-Collins

1. Do you like to create books for adults?

    Yes. I sure do.

2. Does writing energize or exhaust you? Or both?

Writing energizes me. It puts me at a place where I  never thought I’d be.

3. Have you ever considered writing under a pseudonym, and why or why not?

Yes I have because to me it would help make me want to forget the horrible past of child abuse I suffered from family.

4. How did you come up with the title for your book?

For my book entitled Phenomenon: White is the New Black – The K Project, I came up with the name inspired by the show Orange is the New Black.

For my book entitled Phenomenon: In Cold Blood – Life is Strange, I came up with the name inspired by the first half mentioned in the movie Copote and the second half from the video game series Life is Strange.

5.  Are there therapeutic benefits to modeling a character after someone you know?

To me, yes it is. For another book entitled Phenomenon: Monster – Escape to Earth I wrote many characters based on people I know in real life.

6.  What inspired the idea for your book?

The fight against racism and police brutality inspired me in writing my books.

7.  When did you first call yourself a writer?

I first called myself a writer after finishing a Celebrate Recovery group I was forced to attend back in 2014.

8.  Which of the characters do you relate to the most and why?

I definitely relate to the twins Kenan and Kel Johnston(the main protagonists from White is the New Black – The K Project) because one part of me wants to fight for justice while the other half wants to seek vengeance.

9.   Would you and your main character get along?

I believe Kenan Johnston and I would be the best of friends. We both share an interest in serving justice.

10.  If you could meet your characters, what would you say to them?

I would tell Kenan Johnston that you can’t handle everything alone. You need to take help from others who are willing to offer it to you.
