Secrets Between Us by Valerie Keogh – A beautifully crafted psychological thriller.

Book description:

How safe are your secrets?

One letter a week for fifteen years. 780 identical white envelopes brimming with my sister’s darkest secrets. All the intimate details of a life as different to mine as could possibly be.

I read each letter slowly to make sure I understand it perfectly, one day very soon it will be a matter of life and death…

At the end of each letter, after signing her name, there is always one final sentence:

Don’t forget to burn this letter.

I’ll let you decide if I do…

My thoughts:

This book had me guessing at all the possible twists from early on but it’s also a mind-changer. It had me theorising as to who was doing what from start to end.

I absolutely loved the settings, the one in Ellie’s home and the setting in Scotland. I could really picture them clearly.

The author explores the theme of twin identity brilliantly. It shows the power of guilt through Ellie’s inner battles.

I also really enjoyed the chapters written from the husband’s point of view. This was a beautifully crafted psychological thriller that simmered until reaching a fantastic denouement. That’s when the pot seriously boiled over. What a brilliant ending!
