Author Interview: Michael Sanchez

  1. Are there any books or authors that inspired you to become a writer?

I enjoy reading Edgar Allen Poe’s writings and Stephen King, but it was Sylvester Stallon’s screenplay of Rocky that inspired me to be a writer someday. My thought was if he could do it, then I could do it. Of course, I was a young boy then and had no idea what a screenplay was and wasn’t aware that eventually, I would become a writer many years later.

  1.  As a child, what did you want to do when you grew up?

I always wanted to be a U.S. Marine. That’s all I ever talked about as a kid and while growing up. I used to watch PBS on channel 12 and write about World War I and II documentaries in a composition notebook. That was many years ago and forgotten about it until my sister reminded me.

  1. Do you hear from your readers much?

What kinds of things do they say? Readers enjoy my work and tell me how my writing continues to improve with each book I write.

  1. Do you play music while you write — and, if so, what’s your favorite?

I enjoy listening to music by Hans Zimmer. The title, Time is my favorite.

  1. Does writing energize or exhaust you? Or both?

I love writing but because I work full-time, I don’t have the energy to write for long periods, so it takes longer for me to finish a book

  1. Have pets ever gotten in the way of your writing?

Yes, my boy, Vernie Lee, my 1 and ½-year-old German Shepard loves attention, and sometimes I have to stop what I’m doing to give him attention.

  1. How do you celebrate when you finish your book?

I take my wife out to dinner and talk about the process and how much I enjoyed the journey.

  1. How long does it take you to write a book?

I am averaging eight months to one year. Only because I work full-time.

  1. How long have you been writing or when did you start?

I started writing in 2014.

  1. How many books have you written? Which is your favorite?

I have written and published three books and currently working on two more, but my favorite will always be my first book “Vine Street”.
